Dr. Kross is a native of the Pittsburgh area. He attended the University of Pittsburgh,
graduating magna cum laude with a Bachelor of Science degree in Chemistry. He then
attended Hahnemann Medical College (now Drexel University) in Philadelphia. He was
accepted into an internal medicine internship at McGill University in Montreal, Canada
followed by an internal medicine residency at Baylor College of Medicine in Houston,
Texas. Dr. Kross also did post-graduate study in psychiatry at West Virginia University in
Morgantown, West Virginia. He is board certified in both Addiction Medicine and Internal
Medicine.
For many years, Dr. Kross maintained a private practice involving internal medicine,
addiction medicine, and primary care-based psychiatry. He ran an office based opioid
addiction treatment program using both buprenorphine and injectable naltrexone. This
included many patients with complex dual diagnosis psychiatric conditions. For five
years, Dr. Kross directed the Drug and Alcohol detox unit at Gateway Rehabilitation
Center in Aliquippa, PA. At this facility, he cared for patients with both
addiction/psychiatric disorders who were detoxing from alcohol or drugs. In 2019, Dr.
Kross started and was the director for the buprenorphine opioid treatment program for
inmates with opioid use disorder who were incarcerated by the Pennsylvania State
Department of Corrections.
Dr. Kross has experience treating many psychiatric and addiction disorders. He has
special interest in treating anxiety disorders and mood disorders, including but not
limited to major depression, bipolar I and II disorder, cyclothymia, and chronic persistent
depression.
Living in Wexford, Pennsylvania, Dr. Kross is married and has 3 grown children. For
many years, his hobby was flying. He has a commercial pilot license and instrumental
rating. In his private practice, he also was an aviation medical examiner, receiving
commendation from the FAA for his many years of service. In his leisure time, Dr. Kross
sings in the church choir, does volunteer work at the church, and spends a good deal of
time fixing things and doing projects around the house.
